Bob quit pumping gas in 1960, but the service station has nevertheless become local Route 66 icon. This building typical of many early American gas station designs. Set back from the road, has little in common with gas marts of small roof protected the single gas pump and customers from the elements and provided travelers with sheltered area to dash into the waiting room of the station. Route 66 passed right through the heart of Odell, and at oue point there were seven gas stations along this short stretch.
